Ben Wyatt, Human Disaster.

I love Parks and Rec, its just the best show on tv at the moment. And while all of the show is awesome, one of my favourite little things has been Adam Scotts great selection of checked shirts. He has a very easy prep, J Crew-esq style that works really well in a casual office, much like the one I work in. So deciding I wanted to add a few more checks to my wardrobe I hit up Banana Republic and grabbed this micro check slim fit shirt.

We're in the strange cross over period between Summer and Autumn collections at the moment so they didn't have a massive selection, but I'll definitely be seeing what other styles will be coming in for Fall. Its in their non-iron material, which really does work, I've worn it a twice already and it comes straight out of the wash crease free and ready to wear.

LeBron, Snow, and a New York Miracle.

Note: I actually started writing this piece a few weeks back, way before LeBron returning to Cleveland seemed like a real possibility. I got distracted with other stuff, but with LeBron officially a Cav again, now it seems all the more appropriate (I'm just waiting for Bron to decide which number he's going to wear now and then I can order a current Cavs jeresy).

In February 2009 my girlfriend and I visit New York, mostly so I could make a pilgrimage to Madison Square Garden and see LeBron and the Cavs play. The journey out was about as bad as possible, and we arrived in New York at 4:00am, a whole 12 hours late after battling snow storms in the UK and cancelled flights. So after some much needed sleep we started our first day in NY, and of course a visit to the NBA store was one of the first things on the schedule.

I already knew what I was looking for. In the fist week of January the Cavs had debuted a new jersey against the Boston Celtics as part of Cavfanatic night, a promotional night with the Cavfanatic social media site. Since then its become an annual event, with a new jersey each year. You can read a great write up and interview about them on Uni-Watch here. The reaction to the 2009 jerseys were pretty mixed, but LeBron seemed to give them the nod, saying "I like 'em, they're colourful... like a bag of Skittles". I loved them, and definitely had to get one.

So with great excitement I tore around the NBA store searching for the jerseys, eventually finding them tucked away on a bar with some of the yellow Cavs throwbacks they'ed also been wearing that season. But there was only one blue jersey... and it was an XL. Now I'm not the biggest guy so an XL would have just swamped me, plus I wanted to actually play in it, not star in a 90's rap video. I checked with a sales associate if they had any others, but no luck. So I left without it, and over the course of our time in New York I checked every sports store we saw (I picked up some Soldier 2's and Zoom Flight 95's along the way), but didn't find the jersey anywhere else.

The jerseys are a re-colouring of the original 1970's Cavs design but in royal blue with the traditional Cavs wine and gold moved to the trim. I love the bold contrast of the blue, the red, and then the pop of gold. I particularly like the plain style numbers and name without any piping or edging, it really captures the vintage feel. It also has some nice detailing. The NBA logo on the chest is in a darker red & blue than a regular jersey, with off white used on the Jerry West silhouette further emphasising the vintage look. Plus it has the Cav Fanatic tag which is a really nice touch.

After going to the Cavs vs Knicks game and watching LeBron drop 52 points and a triple double, I decided to make do with one of the yellow Cavs throwbacks instead. Heading back to the NBA store I found the yellow jerseys exactly where they had been before, with the one blue jersey still tucked at the back of the rack. I found my size in the yellow, but grasping at some vain hope, and just to be make double sure, I checked the sizing on the one blue jersey.

To my complete shock and disbelief it had magically become a medium! I don't know if it was a return, or if they'ed found an odd jersey in a box out the back, but I had it in my size. Suffice to say I snatched it up and paid for it as quickly as possible before there was a chance that this was some kind of mistake. Five years later and its still one of my favourite jerseys, I played basketball in it this weekend, and it always reminds me of a great trip to NY and my little New York miracle.

Run Forest Run

I swung by Nike Town on my lunch break today and picked up a pair of the new Lunarglide 6 shoes. I was really impressed when the ID version went up on the Nike site in June, but thought I'd wait for a general release version, and I'm glad I did as I really love this white/hyper crimson/hyper cobalt colourway.

I've been running in the Gyakusou version of the Lunarglide 4 for the last year, and definitely clocked up the 500 miles that seems to be the consensus milage for a change of shoes. Before that I was wearing the Lunarglide 3's and the series seem to suit me really well. I ran in them this evening and it was a little strange running in a new shoe, but after a couple of runs they'll be broken in nicely.

My now retired Gyakusou Lunarglide 4s.

"Let me tell you something brother..."

Yesterday afternoon I popped into one of the local charity shops as my girlfriend had some things to donate. As usual I made a b-line for my favourite section, the tie rack. I quite regularly pick up really smart ties in charity shops, its a great place to find interesting vintage designs and they're always dirt cheap.

Yesterday I spotted this smart varsity striped tie, only to find it was Brook Brothers. Its quite similar to this one that I got a few months back, but I like that its got a matte finish, and the quality is great. Plus it would be rude to pass up Brooks Brothers for £2.95!

The Best Man

One of my oldest friends has asked me to be his best man for his wedding in August which I'm super excited about. The grooms party isn't wearing matching wedding suits, which is great as rentals never fit and a lot of the time look awful. I've got a new suit which I'll definitely right a post about nearer the time. But we are going to be matching the groom by wearing pink ties, so I've been hunting for an appropriate pink bow tie, as weddings are a great opportunity to go that little bit extra and rock a bow tie.

After a little googling I found mrsbowtie.com who specialise in bow ties and have an amazing selection of colours, fabrics and styles. All their ties are made in Britain, and come beautifully boxed, and I also got a hand written note which was a really nice touch. They ship using DPD couriers, who I was really impressed with as they gave a number of delivery options when I wasn't in on the originally scheduled day. This was a nice change as courier services are generally terrible. So I'm all set for the big day, now I just need to get speech writing.

Livin' on the Edge

I've been wanting to see Aerosmith live for a long time, but somehow I've never been able to catch them when they come to the UK. This all changed this past weekend when they hit London as part of their 'Let Rock Rule' tour to play the Clapham Calling festival. I had a great day, Aerosmith were just as awesome as I'd hoped, and I also made sure not to miss the opportunity to grab a great vintage style shirt. Now I can be as cool as Garth!
